OK - Seizure Topa's, I need your help once again.
I was in the ED Saturday night for pelvic and abdominal pain - just another road stop on my way to Hysterectomy land Oct. 28th!
Anyway- the doctor gave me Dilantin for pain. The nurse said it would be make me really hot and sweaty and dizzy. They put the railings up and I couldn't get out of bed for 20 minutes after the meds were infused. But shortly after she inject the demon liquid, my legs ACHED! Then I felt hot, like she said, and started feeling very weird. She left, I told my husband to adjust my bed and lower the pillow cause I thought I was falling asleep. I was getting groggy, but I felt lightheaded as if I were going to pass out. Then all I remember is my husband sitting down and I'm trying to focus on the tv and I'm telling myself "it's ok, it's just the medicine, breathe." But I'm finding it harder to breathe. Then the next thing I no is my husband and the nurse is standing over me yelling my name!
My husband said I had gone quiet and he started talking to me, but I didn't say anything back. When he went to see if I had fallen asleep, my eyes were rolled into the back of my head then I started making weird noises. I wasn't moving or anything, just grunting like I couldn't breathe. When they woke me up I was so confused. I had no idea what had gone one cause I was so unaware that it had been like 5 minutes. I thought I had just sat back! Then I got so hot I couldn't stand it and began throwing up. They ended up having to give me a second dose of anti-nausea meds so I could get contrast down for a CT scan. The Dilantin made me so disoriented that I couldn't move on my own. I couldn't roll over without throwing up!
The minute my husband told me what had happened I asked him if I had had a seizure. He said the nurse told him it was from the medicine?!?!
When they tried to give me this again I refused. I was shocked the next day when I looked it up and it's a seizure med - not a pain med!!!
Anyone else have this reaction to Dilantin? Should I call my neuro and let him know or can this wait till I see him in Sept?
