However, given the choice, I would most definately have gone the vaginal route. Since I've never birthed baybees, I had no choice. Abdominal and all of it's joys. 9-inch bikini scar, no working for 4-6 weeks, couldn't sit for more than 10 minutes at a time for it seems like forever AND, sorry to report....
Hate to be Debbie Downer--- but the blight of bloat is most definately present after an open procedure, too. They still have to inflate air into your abdomen to get to "the goods." Granted, not as much as they do with a lap procedure, but whoa, boy, you get the bloat. Gas pains all the way up to your shoulder. I couldn't fit into my jeans due to swelly belly for months after my hyster. But, I'm really tall, and I guess there was a lot of dispersed gas and stuff that got lost trying to find a way out.
Right now I have this gas bubble stuck in my chest that wakes me up every night, like clockwork at 3 a.m. Be Gone Gas! (I should own stock in Gas-X by now.) And the weird thing is, my hyster. scar is once again visible. It's all red and angry and puffy. It WAS just a thin white line and I'm such a bloat fish now, it's as if I just had the dang abdominal hyster. yesterday. Or a week ago today.
So, even in an open surgery, gas will occur. But if I remember correctly, it was not as nearly as painful as it is with a lap as it didn't take so long to dissipate. It could "air out" during surgery, I guess. It is kinda trapped when you have a lap, even though I have four freakin incisions including one directly in my poor belly button.
I shoulda had them insert a stylin' belly button ring thingy while they were there.
Ewww. Not.
My SIL recently had a vaginal hyster. and I was amazed at how quickly she recovered. (she doesn't read this site so I can say this...she's a total whiner about even the common cold. Total histrionics if she gets a sinus infection.) Anyway, she had the procedure done vaginally. (she has given birth to two) and was up and about and back to work within two weeks. I was stunned, to say the least.) Sooo, just saying, I wouldn't rule out vaginal. Although, since you need some bladder work done, that may be something to consider further down the road, as you said. Don't want too much on your plate at once. Jimmy Buffet is on tour again (of course!) soon! I heard he is coming to Raleigh! So...ya gotta get healthy and ready to blow out your flip flops! :)
I sure hope the new plan works out for you and things calm down, um, down there!
